Scholarships

Each year, the application deadlines are July 1 for the fall semester and January 2 for the spring semester.


An application package, including instructions, is available here.  Only one application is required for all scholarships described below.


Applicants are advised that the application has been revised, and they should become familiar with it and the instructions.


A statement signed by the applicant’s pastor is part of the application. Applicants should start early in order to submit a complete application in a timely manner.

Edwin W. Peurifoy Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2008 by the will of Edwin W. Peurifoy,  a long time member of Bethel United Methodist Church.


This scholarship may be awarded to any United Methodists students who are residents of Colleton County.  Students must me full-time college or technical students with a B average for the previous semester.  Incoming freshmen must have a B average in high school.  


The scholarship is awarded each semester.  See the scholarship packet above for the application form.


Over $1,000,000 has been awarded from this scholarship.

Katherine Wilkes Herring Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 1999 in memory of Kathleen Wilkes Herring by her family.  She was the daughter of a Methodist minister and a school teacher for many years.  She  was also a long time member of Bethel United Methodist Church.


This scholarship may be awarded to any Bethel member who is a student in good standing at Columbia College, Wofford College, Wesleyan College, Emory School of Theology, or Duke School of Theology.  


The scholarship is awarded annually in the spring.  No additional application is required.

Ryan White Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2007 in memory of Ryan White by his grandson.  Ryan was a long time member of Bethel United Methodist Church.


This scholarship may be awarded to any Bethel member attending Clemson University.  The recipient must be a full-time college student with a B average for the previous semester, or an incoming freshman with a B average in high school.  There is no additional application required.  The scholarship will be awarded when sufficient funds are available to any recipients from Bethel attending Clemson University.
